Captain Stede Bonnet, “the Gentleman Pirate” of Barbados fame, captained the “Revenge” in the Caribbean and along the Atlantic coast during the early 1700’s, as part of Edward Teach’s (Blackbeard) fleet.
Stede Bonnet and the “Revenge” moved north along the American east coast between 1716-1718 with numerous victories, finally utilizing Cape Fear, North Carolina as his homeport of refuge.
During his plundering, Bonnet and his crew were captured in late 1718. Captain Bonnet was sentenced and swung from the gallows with his crew on December 10, 1718, ending the reign of Stede Bonnet “The Gentleman Pirate.”
